Your Luciela intimates are made from high-quality European materials and crafted by hand in a boutique atelier in Lisbon. If treated well, they should last a long time.
Below are some general instructions for how to keep your lingerie in good condition, but always make sure to read the garment care description on each product page in case it includes additional information.
Our pieces are machine washable in cold or lukewarm water, at a maximum temperature of 30°C. We recommend using a mild, environmentally-friendly detergent.
Do not dry clean. Dry cleaning uses chemicals that are not suitable for the delicate fabrics used in our lingerie.
Do not tumble dry. Luciela lingerie is made from delicate fabrics including lace and tulle mesh, which can shrink and/or become misshapen when exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time.
Do not use bleach. Our pieces are not colourfast to bleach, and bleach will ruin the colours.
You can iron your lingerie on a low temperature setting, with or without steam. Be gentle with the fabric and don’t pull it while ironing.
While fabric softener smells good, we recommend that you skip it when washing your Luciela lingerie. Conventional fabric softeners use harmful chemicals that damage clothes and irritate the skin over time, and they are particularly damaging to delicate garments like lingerie. There are a number of natural alternatives to fabric softener that are just as effective, such as essential oils to leave clothes smelling good, and wood dryer balls to reduce static.
Always wash your lingerie with similar colours to prevent colour bleeding from other clothes, especially new clothes going into their first wash or dark clothes in colours like black. Luciela products are colourfast, but could be ruined if washed with other, less colourfast items.
We always recommend washing your Luciela pieces in a mesh laundry bag to enhance the longevity of your intimates wardrobe. A laundry bag prevents stretching, tangling and snagging between garments, and damage to hooks or clasps which can otherwise come into contact with the metal drum of the washing machine.
A recycled stretch innovation re-made from pre-consumer materials and containing more than 50% pre-consumer recycled content. Used in our Wisteria collection.
Although our products can be ironed, we recommend using a garment steamer over an iron if you have one. Maintain the recommended distance between the steamer and the garment, and be careful not to touch the garment with the steaming device.
We recommend always ironing your lingerie inside out. In the event that a too-high temperature setting is used when ironing, the iron leaves shiny marks on the fabric which are caused by melted or scorched fibres. By ironing inside out, any mishaps like this will not be visible on the outside of the fabric.

Briefs and bodysuits should be washed after every wear. As a general rule, bras and baby dolls should be washed after every few wears (3-4), but this will depend on how much you sweat. Bras come into direct contact with the skin, and washing them regularly prevents the buildup of sweat, oils and bacteria, which can degrade the fabric over time. Additionally, it is a good idea to give your bra a day off between wearings; even bras made from high-quality European materials, like ours, need some time to allow the elastic time to recover. Cover ups, which do not come into as close contact with the skin, can be washed less frequently and hung up to air between uses.
Make sure you follow the correct washing instructions for your garment, and store your lingerie in a drawer or on a shelf, preferably separated from other clothing items so they don’t get tangled up. Avoid wearing the same bra two days in a row; elastic needs time to recover, so rotating your bras gives them a chance to return to their original shape. For underwire or padded bras, stack them flat with the cups inside each other to prevent crushing and distortion. Avoid folding bras in half as this can damage the cups and underwire. Hang cover ups and baby dolls carefully in a wardrobe so that the delicate fabric doesn’t snag on other items—this will also help any wrinkles to fall out naturally.
Replace your lingerie when you notice signs of wear, such as holes, stretched-out elastic, fraying fabric or underwires poking through. How often you should replace underwear comes down to how often you wear it—the less you have, the more often it will be worn and washed, and the faster it will wear out. Updating your lingerie collection when it starts to wear out ensures you always have supportive and comfortable pieces on hand.
